“Where’s the Beef?” Replaced as Town Motto
The contest to pick a new slogan for the town is over, and the Chrislip Chamber of Commerce has named Bobby Sturgis the winner. Bobby, age seven, won with a slogan that he perfected in countless playground run-ins with his arch-enemy, Jimmy Langford.
“Bobby and his slogan are much like the town itself,” explained Chamber president Rand Vogler. “A little lame, not much to look at, but with the same sassy-pants spirit that saw us blossom from our humble beginnings as a small town into what we are today – a small town that almost had a Kmart. When I close my eyes, I can hear our forefathers bellowing that slogan at marauding bands of Indians. At least the ones named Jimmy.”
I KNOW YOU ARE BUT WHAT AM I, JIMMY? will appear on matchbook covers scattered throughout Chrislip’s better restaurants, and on a plaque at the cemetery above the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
